PP BCF CARPET YARNS TESTING METHODS

All carpet yarns are tested for Dtex, Shrinkage, Crimp, Tensile Strength, Tenacity, Elongation, Spin finish oil and Twist.

Shrinkage test

  • Shrink is tested at extrusion and after heat setting
  • Heat setting is by superba machines
  • After good heat setting yarns are much more uniform and resistant to heat and keep their twist.

Crimp test

Crimp of the yarn is effecting its bulkness and directly proportional with its covering power that is joly important for  the use  in carpet applications.

Strength test

  • The warp yarns are under considerable tension so must have good consistent strength
  • The creels are massive so any yarn breakages can cause considerable downtime and is not acceptable

Elongation Test

elongation of yarn is important for not to cause any residual strain on creel due to beat up of reed at each weft insertion

Ratio of elongation in bcf yarns can effect the final covering power of the yarn on the piles.

Spin finish oil test

Spin finish oil is mainly for antistatic effect, dust reduction and easy flow of yarn on subsequent processes the final ratio of finish oil on yarn is determined and controlled.

Why Polypropylene bcf yarn for carpet?

Polipropilen is very light material when compared with other  fibers ( specific gravity of polypropylene is 0.90 gr/cc this value is 1.38 for polyester, 1.52 for viscose (rayon) , 1.54 for cotton, 1.57 for flax (linen)  1.31 for wool, 1.13 for nylon , 1.17 for acrylic and 1.33 for silk )

This means that covereing power of pp is highest amoung all fibers that enables manifacturers to get much more bulky effect when using pp .

Polypropylene is very resistant to acids, alkalines.

Mildews, fungus and bacteries can not penetrate or live in polypropylene that makes it very suitable yarn for carpet application.

Due to its very low moisture and water absorbancy ( %0,05)  Polypropylene is hygienic fiber and prevents the material from generation of bacteries and microorganisms.

Other Applications of  Polypropylene Yarns

The flexibility, tenacity, chemical resistance, colour fastness and abrasion properties of the Polypropylene Yarn make it particularly suitable for a multitude of applications.
